Mosquito Control Program Kicks Off in Salem
Crews from Dragon Mosquito Control have begun working in town.

Crews from a municipal mosquito control business will begin checking around Salem for mosquito larvae this week.
Dragon Mosquito Control will be searching in swamps, ditches, storm drains, woodland pools and other shallow, stagnant water for larvae. When mosquitos are found, the town has informed residents that the following insecticides may be used:
VectoBac (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis)

Altosid (methoprene)

Agnique MMF (poly-isooctadecyl-hydroxyl)
BVA Mosquito Larvicide Oil (highly refined petroleum distillate)
CocoBear MLO (mineral oil)
In addition, control of mosquitos may be done in preparation for Salem's annual 4th of July celebration and the Salem High School graduation. Spraying will take place at SHS, Woodbury Junior High School and the Field of Dreams.
Salem also had a plan in place should Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) or West Nile Virus be found in or near Salem.

While it is not possible to predict whether emergency spraying is necessary, a truck-mounted sprayer could also be used to disperse Anvil (sumithrin, Duet (sumithrin and prallethrin) and Zenivex (etofenprox) along roadways during a public health threat.
