New Medical Office Would Continue Salem Redevelopment

The project would replace an old bank building that has been sitting vacant in an area with a lot of new construction.

The vacant Service Federal Credit Union building at 159 North Broadway may soon be razed to make way for a single-story, 8,000-square-foot medical office building, according to the Union Leader.

The Union Leader has reported that the Salem Planning Board recently reviewed the proposal for the office, which the paper reported would be similar in style to the TD Bank and other recent construction in that area. No decision was made on the project during that meeting, though, because the board and town want to continue to evaluate the project's engineering plans, according to the Union Leader.

According to information available from the Vision Appraisal assessor's online database of Salem properties, the entire parcel was valued at $657,600 in 2012.

The vacant Service Federal Credit Union property has been owned by Service Federal Credit Union of Portsmouth since 1993 when it was purchased for an undisclosed price. The building was constructed in 1940 and has a full living area of 2,890 square feet.
