Salem Man Crashes Motorcycle In Merrimack; Speed, Alcohol ‘Factors’

SALEM, NH — A man from Salem, who was sent to the hospital on Thursday after a motorcycle crash in Merrimack, will face drunken driving and conduct charges, according to New Hampshire State Police

Troopers, Merrimack police, and fire and rescue teams were sent to the southbound side of the Everett Turnpike for a crash around 9:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found a black 2018 Suzuki Boulevard motorcycle crashed in the breakdown lane with heavy damage.

The rider, James Stabile, 38, of Salem, was found later after he fled the scene of the crash, according to Amber Lagace, a spokesperson for the state police.

“He was found walking away from the scene off of Exit 12 and onto the D.W. Highway in Merrimack,” she said. “Initial reports indicate that Stabile was traveling at a high rate of speed, driving aggressively, and passing in the breakdown lane just prior to losing control and striking the back of (a work van).”

The driver of the 2018 Nissan NV 1500 van, a Lowell, Massachusetts, man in his early 50s, was not injured and released from the scene. Stabile was taken to Elliot Hospital.

Lagace said “speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this crash,” however, all aspects remain under investigation. She expected driving while intoxicated and conduct after an accident charges to be issued against Stabile soon.
