Salem PD Looking For Suspect Accused Of $5K Cigarette Heist
The department has published photos of the suspect, who was confronted by an officer on Wednesday night, but fled before being detained.

SALEM, NH —The Salem Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect accused of stealing over $5,000 worth of cigarettes from a local market.
The department has released surveillance camera images of the suspect in an attempt to track him down. In the photos, the suspect appears to have a beard and is wearing and black and white baseball cap and a colorful black, yellow, red and white hoodie.
According to police reports, on Sept. 22, the suspect walked out of Market Basket, located at 69 Central Street, carrying multiple boxes containing packs of cigarettes.

On Wednesday night, an SPD officer working detail at Chaser's Poker Room and Casino, located at 7 Veterans Memorial Pkwy., attempted to detain the man, according to police. However, the suspect fled in a vehicle, the SPD said.
