Salem Police Arrest MA Man Accused Of Multiple Retail Thefts

SALEM, NH — A Dorchester, Massachusetts man was arrested Thursday afternoon in Salem after being accused of multiple thefts —including taking over $5,000 worth of cigarettes — from Salem stores last week, the Salem Police Department said.

Kelvin Andrade, 31, was taken into custody at approximately 2 p.m. Thursday at Chaser's Poker Room and Casino, located at 7 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, according to the SPD. The previous night, a police officer had attempted to detain Andrade at the same location, but the suspect had fled in a vehicle, according to police.

Andrade has been charged with willful concealment; theft, possession of a theft detection device remover, and willful concealment; theft with two prior qualifying convictions, authorities said. Police said the case remains under investigation and additional charges are possible.

The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Rockingham Superior Court, the SPD said.

According to the SPD, the suspect is accused of two thefts that took place on Sept. 22: stealing over $5,000 worth of cigarettes from Market Basket, located at 69 Central Street, and a second theft from the New Hampshire Liquor and Wine Outlet, located at 92 Cluff Crossing Rd. #4.

On Thursday, the SPD had released surveillance camera photos of the suspect and asked for the public's help in identifying the man in the photos.
