Salem Set to Appoint Casino Advisory Committee Members
The Board of Selectmen will meet tonight at 7 p.m.

Six residents will be appointed to Salem's Casino Advisory Committee during tonight's meeting of the Board of Selectmen.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Knightly Meeting Room of Town Hall.
The town has seen a near record-setting number of applicants for the committee, with over 20 citizens applying for membership.

The nine-member committee will be rounded out by Selectman Stephen Campbell, a member of the Salem School Board and either state Rep. Chuck Morse (R-Salem) or a Salem representative of his choosing.
The Salem Budget Committee lobbied last week for a change in the casino committee organization. Selectmen voted 3-2 against a motion proposed by Selectman Mike Lyons to include a BudCom member and another citizen participant.

It won't take long after members are appointed for the committee to have an understanding of where Salem residents stand on a casino.
A non-binding casino referendum will be on the ballot when voters hit the polls tomorrow.
Should legislation pass for expanded gambling in the state, voters would have to approve a binding referendum in order for expanded gambling to take place at Rockingham Park.
