Salem police said a man was shot during an attempted robbery on Northwestern Boulevard over the weekend.

SALEM, NH — A man was shot during an attempted robbery in Salem over the weekend, police said. The victim was hit in the hand and the injury was not life-threatening, according to police Capt. Joel Dolan. The suspect fled the scene and remained on the loose Monday.

The victim told officers he left work Saturday at about 7 p.m. and was driving on Northwestern Boulevard when he saw a man down in the middle of the road.

"The victim stopped to check on the male," Dolan said in a statement. "The victim stated the male pulled out a razor ... demanded his wallet. The victim reports the suspect was not satisfied with the wallet and asked if there was anything else of value in the vehicle."
