Salem to Buy Equipment from Closed-Down 'Eyesore?'

Salem has agreed to purchase items that Windham feels helped contribute to a "drain" on their "public service."

The town of Salem has submitted a bid to purchase three ramps and a rail from Windham's closed-down skatepark for $750.

The Windham Board of Selectmen has approved the sale of equipment from Griffin Park, and Salem selectmen are expected to vote Monday to approve the expenditure using impact fees, according to the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune.

The issue has been a hot topic in Windham since town officials closed the park due to aggressive misconduct, liability concerns, smoking and graffiti, among other things.

"Since the start, I haven't seen anything change out there and I agree it has been a drain on the police service," Windham Selectman Roger Hohenberger said before the town closed the park. "It's been an eyesore to Griffin Park. The rest of the park has been kept very neat and that has been littered with bottles.

The sale comes on the heals of the third round of bid requests for the equipment. The first two rounds proved unsuccessful, and a plan to save the park fell through earlier this year.
