Salem to Pave 14 More Roads

The additional work was made possible when the town's 2014 road work came in $460,000 under budget.

The Salem Department of Public Works will reconstruct and repave 14 additional roads after bids for paving work came in $460,000 below budget.

The Board of Selectmen voted 4-1 Monday to instruct town staff to repave Lyndale Avenue, Crescent Circle, Easy Street, Mahoney Avenue, Lois Lane, Sorensen Road, Birch Road, Gardner Avenue, West Lane, Bounty Court, Griffin Street, Hall Avenue, Chase Street and Sylvan Drive Extension. Other roads had already been scheduled for paving as part of the 2014 road program.

The entire $4.6 million warrant article for road work is scheduled to be voted on at the March 11 Town Meeting.

Town Engineer Bob Puff said the new roads will add 6,600 feet to the list, bringing the total to almost 42,000 feet of roads being reconstructed and repaved in 2014.

"That means we're going to be doing 7.92 miles of roads this year, which is very good," Selectman Chairman Everett McBride said. "We're trying to get as much done as we possibly can with the money that you've allocated for us to use."
