'Taco Gigante' Returns to Salem Margaritas on National Taco Day

Friday will be a celebration in Salem for many reasons, including National Taco Day.

Margaritas Mexican Restaurant will bring back the massive "Taco Gigante" for an entire month starting Friday, which is National Taco Day.

The chain, which has a location in Salem, is hosting a special celebration Friday in honor of the holiday and the behemoth taco's return. Prizes and giveaways such as sunglasses, T-shirts, and mustaches are among some of the festivities planned at Margaritas, which describes the "Taco Gigante" as follows:

The two-pound goliath is hand-crafted, made-to-order and presented in distinctive tongue-and-cheek Margaritas style. TheTaco Gigante is made with a crispy 12-inch tortilla shell and comes stuffed with lettuce, refried beans, Mexican rice, seasoned chicken, taco beef, pork carnitas, bacon, salsa fresca, cheese and queso sauce. Topped with crema, pickled jalapenos, picante sauce and hacienda sauce, the $9.99 gargantuan is worthy of its title.

"We were so happy with the response to our National Taco Day promotion last year and wanted to make everything bigger and better this year by offering the Taco Gigante for an entire month," said company President Hugo Marin. "We are excited to share such a fun variation to a traditional Mexican dish. The taco is a simple, yet unique dining experience in that it gives guests an opportunity to create a variety of different flavor combinations."

Other restaurants are also planning special events and deals in the area. What will you do to celebration National Taco Day? Tell us in the comments!
