Two Salem Educators are Nominees for 2014 Teacher of the Year

Teachers at both Salem High School and The Birches Academy of Academics & Art are up for the top honor

A pair of Salem educators are on the short list for 2014 New Hampshire Teacher of the Year.

Kara Christesen, who teaches Integrated Science at Salem High School, is one of 36 nominees for the recognition.

Joining her on the list is Rhonda Cunha of The Birches Academy of Academics & Art, a recently established public charter school.

Cunha is listed as a lead teacher for grades 3 and 4. She relocated to Salem from New York.

A celebration honoring all of the 36 state nominees will take place at the Holiday Inn in Concord on April 8.

During that meeting, the teachers will be displaying their students' work as well as their own. The formal ceremony will follow.

Also on hand will be N.H. Department of Education Commissioner Virginia M. Barry and 2013 New Hampshire Teacher of the Year Heidi Welch of Hillsboro–Deering High School.
