When is the Last Day of School in Salem?

You asked, and Patch answers.

A few readers have asked us about the last day of school for the Salem School District.

Last night's meeting of the Salem School Board was perfect timing for that question.

The board modified the school calendar to recognize Monday, March 25 and Tuesday March 26 as student attendance days.

At this point, Wednesday, June 19 will be the last day of school. That is subject to change if additional cancellations occur.

The high school graduation date will also be decided upon soon. According to Superintendent Michael Delahanty,  the board will make that decision during the March 26 meetings. The earliest a graduation can be held is Friday, June 14.

So far, Delahanty said that five days of school have been missed so far, two of which were a result of the Octover hurricane and two others the result of the very recent March snowstorms.

The dates designated as student attendance days were initially identified as professional days for staff with the indication that they could be converted if necessary.
