Local to Sing Anthem on National Television

Emma Joanis will perform before her largest audience.

Singing in front of large crowds has been a habit for Windham 12-year-old Emma Joanis over the past few months, but none have been as large as the one she will face on July 15.

The annual N.H. Motor Speedway NASCAR Sprint Cup race is coming to Loudon, N.H., and that means that someone has to deliver the National Anthem.

Joanis will sing the Star Spangled Banner before the Lenox Industrial Tools 301.

According to her mother Wendy Joanis, a crowd of 100,000 is expected for the event, and a wider audience will tune in to the race on TNT. The event is planned to start at 1 p.m.

In April, Emma won a competition to earn the right to sing at the event, beating out over a dozen other singers in a competition formatted similar to American Idol. Joanis received a perfect score for her audition from nearly all of the judges.

Emma also performed the National Anthem at TD Garden for a Bruins game this past season, as well as for the Celtics during a nationally televised contest against the Knicks.

Last season, she made her debut in front of a New England sports crowd when she belted out a rendition of "God Bless America" at Fenway Park during the seventh inning of a Red Sox game.
