12-Years Later, Windham Fire Chief Reflects on 9/11 Tragedy
'That's something you see in third-world countries.'
Windham Fire Chief Tom McPherson said it was just another day.
He and fellow firefighters showed up to work ready to respond, as always, to local life- and property-saving opportunities.
The day changed drastically, however, when he watched, in horror, as the events of Sept. 11, 2001 unfold in New York City, Washington, DC and in a remote Pennsylvania field.
In October of 2001, McPherson and company traveled to the site where the World Trade Center towers once stood in lower Manhattan.
"I can tell you, first hand, that's something you see in third world countries," he said of his experience at Ground Zero, "and the devastation that city and those people took on that day is unimaginable."
Watch the video above to hear McPherson talk about that experience and reflect on the tragedy.
