Zoning Amendment Notices: Building Code

In an effort to educate the public on the zoning ordinance amendments that are being recommended by the Planning Board for 2012 Town Meeting, a series of articles will be published leading up to Town Meeting on March 13th.  Each article will provide a summary of one or more zoning amendments being proposed.

Article 3 of the Town Warrant is to update and adopt amendments to the Building Code that regulate construction in Windham.  There are four main items that this Article covers, which are described below:

1) Amendments are being made to the State of NH adopted International Building Codes (residential code, building code, plumbing code, mechanical code, and energy conservation code) to make them specific to Windham.  Examples of this include listing the snow load for roofs, authorizing the Board of Selectmen to set fees, referencing State of NH statues, just to name a few;

2) Repealing the 2003 edition of the International Residential Building Code because it is outdated;

3) Authorizing the Building Inspector, as designated by the Board of Selectmen, to enforce the State Building Code; and

4) Authorizing the Zoning Board of Adjustment to act as the Building Code Board of Appeals.
