District Prepares to Show Kindergarten Off to Public

An open house will take place next Thursday.

Kindergarten teachers at Golden Brook school were hard at work preparing their classrooms Thursday afternoon for an open house set to take place next week.

But unlike normal preparations, these teachers were working from scratch, moving furniture, assembling bulletin boards and organizing supplies in classrooms at the school's brand new kindergarten wing.

From the outside, recently promoted GBS Principal Christi Michaud called the new addition "seamless," with the bricks so similar that it's nearly impossible to tell where the old building ends and where the addition begins.

Nearly every classroom was occupied by a teacher. Michaud said that all staff members who will occupy the new rooms were already on staff, indicating that there were no new kindergarten hires.

While using almost all of the same equipment, the playground behind the new kindergarten wing has been relocated and gated, with a paved blacktop also available inside the fence.

Michaud and the school's new Assistant Principal Rory O'Connor have been thrilled to show off the new wing. While the rooms are not quite filled out, she said they will all be ready to go for the Aug. 23 open house.

That event will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., welcoming parents and other residents to view the new academic space.
