Fill a Thanksgiving Basket for a Local Family in Need

Here are five things you should know heading into this weekend in Windham.


1. Give a local family something to be thankful for this year.
 Color My World, a New Hampshire charity, is collecting Thanksgiving Baskets on Sunday, Nov. 24 and Monday, Nov. 25. Donate one this season to help a family in need. A turkey is not included in the list because other organizations are providing the delicious main course. Additional details at www.colormyworldkids.org or call 860-3274 with questions.


2. A Civil visit. The Friends of the Library of Windham present author, Frank Grzyb, for a special presentation of his book Hidden History of Rhode Island and the Civil War at the Nesmith Library on Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:30.  Frank Grzyb's book will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.  This program is free and open to the public.  Please register for this program by calling the Nesmith Library at 603-432-7154. Frank Grzyb is a decorated combat veteran and the author of three previous books: Touched by a Dragon, Ain't Much of Warand Rhode Island's Civil War Hospital. His work has been featured in such magazines as America's Civil WarCivil War Monitor andThe Civil War Times. When not enjoying his family, Frank serves as a guest lecturer at high schools, universities and military, civic and religious organizations.


3. An odd pairing in Windham? 
This weekend the Windham Actors Guild Presents Neil Simon's The Odd Couple at the Searles School and Chapel. Showtimes are Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and $10 for seniors. 5. Weekend weather. 
A little snow could be on the way this weekend as a cold blast moves in Sunday with a high only in the 20s during the day and down to the teens at night. Get your fireplaces and woodstoves ready!
  • Today: Showers likely, mainly between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Patchy fog between 7 a.m. and noon. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 45. 
  • Tonight: A chance of showers, mainly before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. 
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 42. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.
  • Saturday Night: A slight chance of snow showers after 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. Blustery, with a northwest wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph after midnight. 
  • Sunday: A slight chance of snow showers before 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 29. Windy, with a northwest wind 18 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. 
  • Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 15. Blustery.
