2. SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET: An update on the superintendent search will highlight tonight's meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Community Development Department.

3. U.S. BEATS CANADA IN A THRILLER: In case you missed the Olympic action on Monday, the United States women's soccer team ousted Canada 4-3 to move on to the finals against Japan. The game had everything, from comebacks to penalty shots to amazing corner kicks to a last second goal to seal the instant classic.

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: From the Atlantic Missile Range in Cape Canaveral, Florida, the U.S. unmanned spacecraft Explorer 6 is launched into an orbit around the earth. The spacecraft, commonly known as the "Paddlewheel" satellite, featured a photocell scanner that transmitted a crude picture of the earth's surface and cloud cover from a distance of 17,000 miles. The photo, received in Hawaii, took nearly 40 minutes to transmit.

5. SENIOR PICNIC THIS FRIDAY: An early heads up to residents that town offices will be closed on Friday for the annual senior picnic.
