4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: Only four months into his administration, President James A. Garfield is shot as he walks through a railroad waiting room in Washington, D.C. His assailant, Charles J. Guiteau, was a disgruntled and perhaps insane office seeker who had unsuccessfully sought an appointment to the U.S. consul in Paris. The president was shot in the back and the arm, and Guiteau was arrested.

HOUR CHANGE AT TOWN ADMINISTRATION: Notice from Town Administration: The Administrative Office announces a change in office hours pertaining to the administration of Welfare and Human Services to Windham residents. For general inquiries, residents may contact the Administrative Office staff at 432-7732 between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
To complete a formal application for assistance, residents must call the office to make an appointment with the Human Services Coordinator, Kathy Davis. Appointments will be available during the hours of 9:00 am and 11:00 am only, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Thank-you for your cooperation.
