Five Ways to Beat the Heat Today
We want you to stay cool and safe on the hottest day of the week.

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen...or just follow some of our helpful tips on staying cool.
It has been a warm few days to say the least and today is looking to be the warmest with a high of 97 degrees in Windham. Thunderstorms may be helping cool things down tonight, which is good news and bad news I suppose.
Until then, please stay safe. To reduce the risk of heat illness, the National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun. Any outdoor activities should be rescheduled to earlier or later in the day. And be sure to wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.

Want to beat the heat? Here are some ideas:
1. CLEAN THAT AIR CONDITIONER. Consumer reports says that dirty air conditioner filters could be wasting you money. Dirty filters ruin the efficiency of your air conditioner, which costs you more for less of that sweet cool air. During cooling season, Energy Star recommends that the filters be inspected, cleaned or changed every month.

2. HIT THE BEACH. Take a dip at the Windham Town Beach at Cobbett's Pond. The beach has plenty of fun for the whole family. Lifeguards are on duty and it is open to Windham residents and guests. A beach pass is required (no charge) and may be obtained at the beach.
3. CAFES ARE COOL. Local destinations like and provide a great escape from the sun. You can also get some good food and great coffee to give the boost you need today.
