Little League Tourneys Start at Griffin Park

The road to Williamsport and the LLWS begins this week.

It's a long road to Williamsport, Pa., the location of the annual Little League World Series, but the journey starts on June 27 for Windham's 12 and under squad.

Windham Baseball and Softball League President Scott Mueller said that he is hoping for a good crowd when the team squares off against Bedford at Griffin Park. The game will begin at 6 p.m.

But there is a lot of confidence going into the double-elimination state tournament, as Mueller said that this team won the state title at the ages 10 and under level, and again at the ages 11 and under level.

The winner of District One ultimately squares off against the winner of District Two for the state title. That winner moves on to the New England tournament, and the winner of New England's ships off to Williamsport.

The 10 and under Windham team will start tonight at 6 p.m. with a game against Derry. According to Mueller, that tournament is based around the Jimmy Fund. Kids fundraise during the season for the Dana Farber Clinic.

The 11 and under tournament will start after July 4.

Mueller said that home field during the tournament is infrequent, which is why they are seeking a large turnout at Griffin Park for both teams.
