Math/Science Center Faces Second Board Review

A preliminary plan was approved on Sept. 5.

Town planners once again heard a proposal on Sept. 5 for a math and science center near the old Canobie Paintball complex, with the five board members voting unanimously to pass the preliminary application.

Project Engineer Phil Corbett of CMA Engineers reminded the board that the same application was reviewed last year.

The new application has the center moving to a field across the street, where Corbett said the building will be more of the solar variety.

"We started to move more toward a solar building, and became more constrained by the wetlands, property lines, setbacks (and) physical trees (in the old location)," Corbett said.

, is privately funded. Corbett described it as a field trip destination that will help supplement area schools with math and science.

The whole area, according to Corbett, is pretty much an open field. The learning at the facility will primarily be outdoor, with the use of classrooms during inclement weather. There will also be some teacher training at the facility.

Members of the board scheduled a Sept. 15 site walk to take a look at the new location.
