No Swimming at Town Beach Today as Water Treatment Takes Place

A company that specializes in lake management services has been contracted to treat Cobbett's Pond today for non-native milfoil.
According to the town, the treatment will take place Monday, with no swimming allowed in the water for the 24 hours to follow.
The work was contracted to Aquatic Control Technology by the Cobbett's Pond Improvement Association.

The shoreline will be posted with signs warning residents of the restrictions that will be imposed. A special permit has been issued by the New Hampshire Division of Pesticide Control.
Based on the planned treatment, there will be no swimming from Monday until 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Aquatic Control Technology serve both New England and New York, according to their website. They have operated since 1976.

According to a fact sheet provided by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, non-native milfoil is very difficult to control once it becomes established.
The milfoil spreads rapidly and displaces beneficial plant life, decreasing the value of waterfront property and making swimming harder.
