Pelham to Occupy Windham Office Space Post-SAU Split

The Windham School District has the flexibility to accomodate the split.

As the Windham and Pelham school districts gear toward an amicable divorce at the end of June 2013, Pelham will lease a portion of office space at the current SAU 28 building.

Occupying the building will be five Pelham employees – a business administrator, human resources manager, lead accountant, payroll clerk and a roaming administrative assistant who will split time between Windham and Pelham.

"The main reason being – we don't have a permanent home assigned for these folks," said Brian Carton, Chairman of the Pelham School Board.

That permanent home will be up to the Pelham taxpayers, who will vote next March whether a renovation of their town hall will take place. That renovation would provide the necessary space for the five employees.

Carton said that there is a lot of momentum moving in that direction. Should that idea not come to fruition, commercial space would be leased.

The space would be occupied until November or December of 2013 at the latest.

SAU 28 Superintendent Dr. Henry LaBranche said that Windham has the flexibility to accomodate the request. A temporary phone line for the office will also be installed.

When the split between the two districts takes place next summer, Windham will be designated as SAU 95.

A formal lease agreement will be made for Pelham's request.
