Birdsell Running for NH Senate
The announcement comes hours after Senator Rausch said he would not run again.
State Rep. Regina Birdsell, R-Hampstead, is running for New Hampshire Senate.
The announcement comes hours after the Republican incumbent, Jim Rausch of Derry, said he would not be seeking re-election to District 19, which serves Derry, Hampstead and Windham.
"In the past two terms in the Legislature, and as the head of the Rockingham
County Republican Committee, I have often been impressed by the work done
by the State Senate," Birdsell said in announcing her bid. "However, the will of the people in my district have not always been served by the body as a whole. District 19 is a fiscally conservative constituency that wants their elected officials to protect their wallets, advocate for transportation issues, and expand the tax base. That’s why I’m running for the New Hampshire Senate."
Birdsell, a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, worked for Raytheon and later in the human resources field.
More direct from the Birdsell press release announcing her Senate run:
The Merrimack College graduate and married mother of two stepchildren later became a high-tech recruiter, working with companies such as Applied Material and Teradyne. In 2010, Birdsell ran for public office, and, in her first race, won a seat in the New Hampshire Legislature. In her two terms, she has championed small-business friendly legislation, voted against all tax increases, and was a election reform advocate while serving on the Election Law committee.
"Derry, Hampstead, and Windham have been well-served in the State Senate,
and I plan to continue that tradition,: Birdsell said. "This district wants, and
deserves, a Senator with a voting record of consistent fiscal conservatism. A
Senator that knows how jobs are created and maintained. And a senator that
will need no learning curve and can represent the district on Day 1."
