Shabby Chic Expanding Reach in Windham

A new location under a different name will open on Indian Rock Road.

Shabby Chic is the spot in town for gourmet cupcakes, but soon there will be two spots for the sweet treats.

The Planning Board approved a minor site plan for the cupcake business to open a new location called SophistiCakes in the Village Shoppes Plaza, located at 25 Indian Rock Road, Unit 19.

According to Joseph Maynard of Benchmark Engineering, who is working on the project, the business will be 1,900 square feet, larger than the current Shabby Chic location.

He added that SophistiCakes will be a change of use from a real estate office.

This is the second food-related business to enter the plaza in the past six months. Kumo Sushi took over the old Gourmet Grill location in March.

Maynard said that the business is located in building one of the plaza, which was the original piece on the property.

This is also not the first time Shabby Chic has stretched its reach. The business opened a cupcake booth in the Mall of Rockingham Park last fall.

Maynard also said that the business will be the same, with baking, small events for kids and a small retail side.
