Shabby Chic Opens at New Home Under New Name

The business was finally able to open its new doors after a fire delayed its plans.

A popular local cupcake business has finally moved to a new location down the road after a fire pushed back plans to do so earlier.

Shabby Chic – A Sweets Boutique, will be located at 25 Indian Rock Road, otherwise known as "The Commons" plaza.

The business will also see a name change to "Sophisticakes."

The opening of Sophisticakes was hampered by a 2-alarm fire on Sept. 13, and at the time co-owner Charles Basner said that the plan was to open in October.

Lisa Desrochers also co-owns the business, and Windham Patch caught up with her last year when she decided to open up a kiosk to sell her cupcakes at the Mall at Rockingham Park, which is still active.

Another kiosk has also opened at the CambridgeSide Galleria on the second floor right outside of the elevator.

Despite the changes, Shabby Chic announced on its Facebook page that a lot will remain the same in the new location.

"So many things are still the same... amazing cupcakes baked fresh every day, fabulous homemade gelato and the friendliest staff around," the post said on Saturday.

Hours will also remain the same, with Sophisticakes staying open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Shabby Chic, or Sophisticakes as it will now be known, commonly features seasonal treats. The sweets business has recently advertised cupcake flavors such as candy cane, coconut snowballs, caramel pumpkin and hot cocoa.
