10. Saved From the Frozen Waters:
Over a dozen Windham Fire and Police officers were part of a dramatic ice rescue on Jan. 20 after a man fell through a frozen Canboie Lake trying to retrieve his dog Rusty.
Michael Cifuni, 58, of 121 South Shore Road raced out to fetch his Shar Pei in a canoe just after 10:15 a.m. In an attempt to reach for the animal, the canoe tipped and he fell through.
The rescue effort took nearly 30 minutes, with Salem Fire also assisting.
During a Jan. 30 Board of Selectmen meeting, emergency officials joined the Cifuni family as they were recognized for their efforts.
