Windham Firefighters Extinguish Tractor Trailer Fire On I-93

A tractor trailer caught fire due to a mechanical malfunction on Interstate 93 in Windham. Traffic was held up for several hours.

WINDHAM, NH — A tractor trailer caught fire Monday on Interstate 93 in Windham due to a mechanical malfunction, according to the New Hampshire State Police. The incident was reported around 8 a.m. Monday at Exit 3. Windham firefighters extinguished the fire, but traffic on the road was held up for several hours.

According to police, the 2001 Western tractor trailer, owned by R.C. Recycling of Brentwood, was being driven by an Exeter man during the malfunction. The tractor trailer became fully engulfed in flames before the Windham Fire Department extinguished it, according to the State Police.

Traffic in the area was restricted and travel lanes were reduced for several hours while the tractor trailer and its load were removed from the scene. Anyone with further information on this incident is asked to call State Trooper First Class Michael Berntsen at 603-223-4381.
