Windham Teen Crashes Into Cop Car After 3-Town Pursuit

The chase began in Derry and continued into Londonderry, ending in Hudson after a teen backed into a police cruiser, then fled on foot into a swamp.

A Windham teen was arrested after a pursuit through three towns that ended in Hudson, after crashing into a police cruiser along the way.

On June 21, 2013 at approximately 12:38 a.m., Hudson Police Department was notified by the Londonderry Police Department that a motor vehicle pursuit was entering their jurisdiction. A Londonderry police officer was following a brown 2007 Toyota Sequoia that had refused to stop when signaled to do so by the Londonderry officer.

According to Hudson police, the pursuit originated in Derry when the driver refused to stop for police and sped off. Police in Derry issued a "Be on the Lookout" alert to neighboring towns, which is how Londonderry picked up the pursuit.

Officers from the Hudson Police Department responded to the area of Griffin Road to assist. The Londonderry officer at that point disengaged his emergency equipment but continued to follow the Toyota to make further observations.

Meanwhile the Toyota, which had been traveling south on Griffin Road, merged on to Robinson Road heading south.  The Toyota approached the intersection of Robinson Road and Lawrence Road and entered a driveway across from the intersection.

As the Londonderry officer approached the intersection, the Toyota backed up and struck the Londonderry police vehicle, then turned around and fled north on Robinson Road at a high rate of speed.  The Toyota struck an unknown object while attempting to evade police, and the front and rear passenger side tires were disabled.  The airbags deployed and the vehicle became disabled on Griffin Road in the area north of Robinson Road.  The suspect then fled on foot from the disabled Toyota.

Officers from the Hudson Police Department and Londonderry Police Department pursued the driver on foot.  The suspect was located in a swampy wooded area on Robinson Road a short time later and taken into custody without incident.

The 16-year-old driver, who is not identified as he is a juvenile, was transported back to the Hudson Police Department for processing, and was subsequently released to the Londonderry Police Department.

He faces charges in all three municipalities:

Hudson Police are charging him with: disobeying a police officer (misdemeanor), conduct after an accident (misdemeanor), reckless driving (violation) and operating without a valid license (violation).  He is scheduled to be arraigned in the 9th Circuit Court on July 11, 2013 on the charges from Hudson.

Londonderry Police are charging him with: disobeying an officer, reckless operation, failure to yield at a stop sign (two counts) yellow line violation, and operating without a valid license. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear July 8 in Derry District Court.

Derry Police could not be reached for information on this incident.

There were no injuries as a result of the collision.
