Windham's Tax Rate Increases by 55 Cents

School district accounts for majority of 2.4-percent tax bump.

The New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration recently certified its official tax rate for each town and, as expected, Windham saw an increase.

The 2013 tax rate is $23.60 per $1,000 assessed valuation. That represents a $7,080 tax bill for the average Windham home, up from $23.05 in 2012, or $6,915, in 2012. The 55-cent increase is a 2.4-percent bump.

The 3.1-percent increase from Windham school's factored into 49-cents of the 55-cent raise. Town, state school and county collectively represented the remaining 6-cents.

Of course, most Windham residents remember that voters, this past election season, rejected the school district's proposed operating budget, teachers' contract and a $31 million bond for a new school.

It should also be noted that the overall assessed valuation on the town of Windham increased 1.2 percent, from roughly $2.04 billion in 2012 to nearly $2.07 billion this year, based on a recent revaluation.
