Severe Storms, 107-Degree Temps In NJ Forecast
Dangerous heat and humidity is expected statewide Friday with severe storms poised to slam NJ, according to the latest forecast.
The pleasant weather New Jersey has experienced so far this week will suddenly disappear Friday with dangerously hot temperatures that could break records and severe thunderstorms possible statewide, according to the latest forecast.
Temperatures could feel as high as 107 degrees Friday in parts of the state, according to the National Weather Service.
An Extreme Heat Warning will be in place along the I-95 corridor in eastern Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex, Union, Somerset, Middlesex, Mercer, Gloucester, Camden, and northwestern Burlington counties. A Heat Advisory will be in effect in Salem, Cumberland, Atlantic, Cape May, Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Ocean and southeastern Burlington counties.

While a Heat Advisory is less serious than an Extreme Heat Warning, temperatures in those counties could still see temperatures feeling like up to 106 degrees.

This heat could break records.

"The record of 99 set in 2016 in Newark, New Jersey, is likely to be swapped by a triple-digit reading," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Chad Merrill.
The entire state is also at a marginal risk of severe storms, according to the National Weather Service. The greatest threat is locally damaging wind gusts.
"Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms move northwest to southeast," National Weather Service forecasters said. "The greater potential for severe weather will be northwest of the I-95 corridor and lower as you head southeast due to timing as these areas will not see any of this activity until later in the evening given current guidance."
The good news is the heat will not last, though humidity will linger through the weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday will see continuing rounds of showers and thunderstorms, primarily on Sunday.
Warm, humid weather continues into next week. Highs into the 90s are expected Monday through Wednesday before another cooling trend appears.
"Much more sweeping changes will come through the Northeast from Tuesday to Wednesday, depending on location, "Merrill said. "A touch of autumn is expected for a few days during the middle to latter part of next week with lower-than-historical average highs that will linger into the first few days in August."
