Winter Weather Advisories Expand Across NJ Ahead Of Storm
Snow, sleet and ice will coat New Jersey Saturday afternoon, making for dangerous road conditions, forecasters warn.

NEW JERSEY — Most of New Jersey will be under a Winter Weather Advisory Saturday as a messy storm coats the state with snow, sleet and ice, according to the latest forecast.
The greatest risks are far North Jersey, which could see up to 5 inches of accumulation, the National Weather Service said. Central Jersey could see 1 to 2 inches and everything south of that will see a dusting, if that.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for most of the state from Saturday afternoon to early Sunday. This is in place everywhere except for the northeastern corner, which will be under a Winter Storm Watch, and the immediate coast and southern tip of the state, which have no warnings.

The storm will begin around 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday starting in South Jersey and moving north, National Weather Service forecasters said, with the worst expected between 4 p.m. and 1 a.m. In North Jersey, where the bulk of the snow is expected, it will begin between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., again with the worst expected through 1 a.m.
From south to north overnight, precipitation will change to sleet and freezing rain, forecasters say. Up north, wintry precipitation will linger, while in the south we will see more plain rain. Things should taper off statewide by 7 a.m.

A dangerous amount of ice could accumulate as well, the National Weather Service warned. Parts of New Jersey could see up to a quarter-inch of ice.
This amount of ice "on tree limbs, power lines, roadways and sidewalks can be detrimental, especially if resources necessary to pretreat roads become limited from use earlier in the week," AccuWeather forecasters said.
Even as of Friday morning, the forecast isn't 100 percent certain, according to the National Weather Service. Changes to totals and the timing could come before the storm hits.
Another 4 to 6 inches of snow could coat New Jersey in a storm Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. On its heels will be yet another storm on Thursday, but it's too early to know those details.
