These Are The Top-Ranked Hospitals In NJ: U.S. News Ranking

U.S. News evaluated more than 5,000 hospitals based on their performance across 30 medical and surgical services.

NEW JERSEY —Eight hospitals in New Jersey are among the best in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2024-2025 Best Hospitals ranking released Tuesday.

For its 35th annual report, U.S. News evaluated more than 5,000 hospitals based on their performance across 30 medical and surgical services.

Hospitals on the list are ranked within their own states, and the metro areas they are located in.

These are U.S. News and World Report's top-ranked hospitals in New Jersey, and their state ranking:

  1. Hackensack University Medical Center at Hackensack Meridian Health
  2. Morristown Medical Center
  3. Valley Hospital (Ridgewood)
  4. Jersey Shore University Medical Center at Hackensack Meridian Health (Neptune)
  5. Overlook Medical Center (Summit)
  6. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (New Brunswick)
  7. Cooper University Health Care-Camden
  8. Jefferson Health-Stratford, Cherry Hill and Washington Township

And by metropolitan area, the top-ranked hospitals in New Jersey are:

New York City metro

  • Hackensack University Medical Center at Hackensack Meridian Health (No. 5)
  • Morristown Medical Center (No. 11)
  • Valley Hospital (No. 15-tie)
  • Jersey Shore University Medical Center at Hackensack Meridian Health (No. 18)
  • Overlook Medical Center (No. 20)
  • Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (No. 22 - tie)

Philadelphia metro

  • Cooper University Health Care-Camden (No. 11)
  • Jefferson Health-Stratford, Cherry Hill and Washington Township (No. 12)

These hospitals are among the top 466 Best Regional Hospitals in the country, according to U.S. News.

For the first time this year, U.S. News also identified 98 hospitals across the country for their success in caring for patients from historically underserved communities. In New Jersey, the following hospitals were recognized:

  • Cooper University Health Care-Camden
  • Jefferson Health-Stratford, Cherry Hill and Washington Township

The publication also ranked hospitals within certain specialties— including cancer care, cardiology, neurology/neurosurgery, rehabilitation, orthopedics, urology, and more.

To calculate the 2024-2025 Best Hospitals for the Honor Roll, specialty and region, U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance using a variety of measures. Data came from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations, and medical specialists. The Procedures & Conditions ratings are based entirely on objective patient care measures.
