Snow, Ice, Arctic Blast Hit NJ Friday

Winter weather is moving through the Garden State with biting cold temperatures in store.

The first day of winter isn't until later this month, but it feels like a frigid winter Friday for New Jersey with snow falling in far South Jersey and some of the coldest temperatures so far this season.

As of Friday morning, snow is falling in the southern portion of the state. However, not a lot of accumulation is expected.

Flurries and snow showers could reach as far north as the I-78 corridor, according to the National Weather Service, though no accumulation is anticipated there.

Clouds will take over the northern Jersey skies as the day goes on, forecasters said.

Most of New Jersey will see high temperatures between the upper-20s and upper-30s, National Weather Service forecasters said, reaching the lowers-40s along the coast.

Some freezing drizzle is also possible Friday evening, particularly Central Jersey and south, forecasters said.

Another cold front will cross the state Sunday into Sunday night, but it will be warmer than Friday.

"Temperatures will be about 5 to 10 degrees below normal for this time of year, but this will be about 10 degrees warmer than temperatures today," National Weather Service forecasters said.

That front could also bring some light snow to North Jersey.

Frigid temps will return Monday, reaching as much as 20 degrees below normal, forecasters said.

More snow and rain could fall mid-week, but forecasters are still uncertain of how things will play out.
