There had been no illnesses reported as of the expanded recall announcement Monday.

The recall followed a routine sampling by the administration that revealed that products contained asbestos.

“Upon further investigation, we have identified additional lots of products that may contain asbestos due to using the same bulk talc material,” Monday’s announcement said. “The company has ceased the distribution of the product as an investigation is proceeding to determine what caused the contamination of the talc.”

Customers who purchased the recalled baby powder should stop using it and return it for a refund.
