NEW JERSEY — A state trooper suddenly died at training, a 200-pound potbelly pig was wrangled by police, a woman was hit by a train and a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike involving a flipped vehicle shut down one lane over the weekend.

200-Pound Big Escapes South Jersey Farm

Pumba, a 200-pound potbelly pig, triggered a wild goose (er, pig?) chase around South Jersey Friday after getting loose from his farm in South Jersey, authorities said.

After locals in the Heatherwood neighborhood reported a pig on the loose, Washington Township (Gloucester County) police officers wrangled the pig later that day. Pumba was returned to his farm the next day, police said.

NJ State Trooper Dies At Training In Mercer County

State authorities are investigating the death of New Jersey State Trooper Marcellus Bethea, who died during a training at state police headquarters in Ewing, officials said.

Bethea was a state trooper at the Troop D at the Moorestown Station, officials said.

“Trooper Bethea showed a passion and spark for service from a young age, participating in New Jersey State Police Trooper Youth Week while a student at Burlington Regional High School, and later graduating from the State Police Academy as part of the 156th class,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement. “He embodied Honor, Duty, and Fidelity in its highest form every day and in everything he did.”

An investigation into the death is underway, Murphy added.

Menacing Man Walking Through NJ Neighborhood With Bat, Mask Arrested

A man walking through a Jersey Shore neighborhood wielding a bat and mask in the wee hours of Friday morning was arrested, NJ101.5 reported.

The man, who reportedly told police he was making TikTok videos and refused to provide his name, was also wearing latex gloves when he was arrested about 4 a.m., the outlet said. A search of the man - who was later identified as Jacob Castillo, 20, of Lakewood - found a Swiss army knife as well.

Castillo was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and burglar tools, the outlet reported.

Woman Struck By NJ Transit Train Saturday

A woman was hospitalized Saturday night after she was struck by a NJ Transit train in Morris County, authorities said.

The woman was struck about 7:23 p.m. on a train platform in Morristown, an NJ transit spokesperson told Patch. Her condition was not immediately clear Monday morning.

The investigation remains under investigation by the New Jersey Transit Police Department.

1 Injured After NJ Turnpike Crash In Middlesex County

A driver whose pickup truck ran off the road of the New Jersey Turnpike and overturned Saturday afternoon was hospitalized, NJ.com reported.

The incident, which took place about 3:54 p.m. on the local lanes of the turnpike in Cranbury Township, prompted the closure of one southbound lane outer roadways, the outlet reported.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
