Dunkin' Vs. Starbucks Locations In NJ: See How Many Your Town Has
New Jersey is certainly a Dunkin' state, but there are a significant amount of Starbucks stores, as well. See how your town compares.

NEW JERSEY — There is no doubt that New Jersey runs on Dunkin'.
In comparing the number of Dunkin' versus Starbucks stores in the Garden State, Dunkin' wins out by a landslide. There are 860 Dunkin’ locations in New Jersey and approximately 300 Starbucks stores.
Newark is the Dunkin’ capitol of New Jersey with an astounding 34 locations, but that also includes five locations at Newark International Airport. Newark is also the Starbucks capitol of New Jersey with 10 locations, three of which are at the airport.

Jersey City comes in second place with 23 Dunkin' stores and eight Starbucks locations. Both Edison and Elizabeth have a total of 12 Dunkin' stores — with Elizabeth housing only one Starbucks.
New Jersey has one Dunkin’ for about every 10,800 residents; only New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Maine have more Dunkin’ locations per population.

The first ever Dunkin' Donuts opened in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1950 by founder William Rosenberg. At the time, he served donuts for just five cents and premium cups of coffee for 10 cents. Before coining the name "Dunkin' Donuts" the donut and coffee shop was actually called "Open Kettle."
According Dunkin's history, Rosenberg's goal was to “make and serve the freshest, most delicious coffee and donuts quickly and courteously in modern, well-merchandised stores."
