First ANCHOR Rebate Deadline Is Sunday For NJ Taxpayers
Payments could start rolling out as early as next month — but certain residents need to make sure their information is correct.
NEW JERSEY — More than 1.4 million New Jersey homeowners and renters will get their ANCHOR property tax benefits automatically this year — but they still have to make sure certain details are up-to-date.
This is the third year for the state's property tax relief program. ANCHOR stands for Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters, and residents can receive payments between $500 and $1,750.
Past ANCHOR recipients have to file a new application online by Sunday, Sept. 15 if they've changed their bank account details, address, or name since last year cycle, even if they got a letter in the mail saying they are auto-enrolled. To do so, they will need the ANCHOR ID and PIN number printed on their benefit confirmation letter.

Those who have misplaced their letters will have to go through extra verification steps this year for security purposes, the state said.
Danielle Currie of the New Jersey Department of the Treasury said that among these past recipients, more than 26,000 homeowners and 18,000 renters have changed their personal information online as of Tuesday.

Residents can expect to see payments arrive around 90 days after their application is complete, and that could be as early as October, Currie told Patch previously.
The state mailed application packets to another 2 million residents, who may not have applied for ANCHOR before or who did not qualify for an automatic payment.
Homeowners and renters who have not gotten a benefit confirmation letter or an application mailer can still apply at anchor.nj.gov. The deadline to submit a new application is on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Currie said more than 120,000 applications have been filed by new applicants, and those who received an application mailer. This includes about 69,000 homeowners and 51,000 renters, and Currie said the Treasury expects that number "to continue to grow through the Nov. 30 deadline."
More information about this program is available at anchor.nj.gov. Applicants may also call the ANCHOR hotline at (609) 826-4282 or 1-888-238-1233, or get in-person assistance at a Regional Information Center.
