Where To Get Food Assistance In All 21 NJ Counties

Hundreds of thousands of NJ residents are affected by the pause in SNAP benefits or are federal employees who are going unpaid. Here's help.

A week into November, hundreds of thousands of New Jersey residents are faced with no money to buy food.

More than 800,000 who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits — including children, the disabled and elderly people — have not received benefits or have received a pittance for November. That is in spite of orders by two federal judges to the Trump administration to use funds specifically set aside by Congress to fund SNAP in an emergency.

In addition, thousands of federal employees continue to go unpaid as the government shutdown marks its 37th day.

Last week, two federal judges ordered that the Trump Administration, specifically the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), tap into $4.65 billion in contingency funds to keep the program afloat. On Tuesday, Gov. Phil Murphy used New Jersey Air National Guard members to deliver refrigerated storage containers to the Community Foodbank of New Jersey and Fulfill, giving those organizations increased cold storage capacity to provide meat, dairy, and produce to dozens of food pantries that the two organizations support.
