NEW JERSEY - Retirement in New Jersey can be relaxing and adventure-filled, while also being cost-effective, according to travel outlet WorldAtlas.
Hailng themselves as "The Original Online Geography Resource," the digital publication has released their "6 Most Affordable Towns To Retire In New Jersey" rankings for 2025.
New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the nation, and eleventh in total population, according to Newsweek. Still, the state's 125-mile-long coastline with world-famous beaches and proximity to major cities makes it an attractive spot to settle down.

Each of the locations also gives residents hospitals and other care centers within short walking or driving distances.

Rahway
Population Estimate: 30,000
Median Home Cost (According to Economic Research Institute): $276,500
Why?: Rahway offers easy accessibility to other areas around the state, sitting along the Northeast Corridor/New Jersey Coast rail lines. It is also just 15 miles from Manhattan.
The town runs specific activities, social circles and recreation for those over 60, and has an extensive senior center facility. Several art centers and parks, such as Rahway River Park and the Union County Arts Center, also make up the variety of new places to explore.
Haddonfield
Population Estimate: 12,465
Median Home Cost: $534,000
Why?: The higher price tag than Rahway for an average home is supported by a high walkability score, outstanding access to public transit and low crime rates. More than 200 shops and galleries line the downtown streets, along with a multitude to restaurants and historical sites.
Hammonton
Population Estimate: 15,000
Median Home Cost: $243,000
Why?: The walkability aspect of Hammonton, coupled with the variety of attractions that can be accessed on foot, puts this hidden Jersey gem at number three on the list.
The "Blueberry Capital of the World" is also home to Wharton State Forest, multiple wineries, and the Atsion Lake and Recreation Area. According to WorldAtlas, it's the "hiking, biking, canoeing, and camping as well as its abundance of historical sites, museums, and tours" that draw the crowds to Hammonton.

Hopatcong
Population Estimate: 14,600
Median Home Cost: $240,600 (According to the Economic Research Institute)
Why?: Hopatcong ranks 10 percent below the state average in cost of living, and is known for its waterfront and waterfront activities. Lake Hopatcong is the state's largest lake, and has 45 miles of shoreline lined with restaurants, marinas, beaches and shops.
There is also a Senior Recreation and Nutrition program available to residents that provides events, transportation, and both medical and personal, support.
Hainesport
Population Estimate: 6,040
Median Home Cost: $240,000
Why?: Hainesport joins Hopatcong on the list, also ranking 10 percent below the state average in cost of living. The town is not very walkable, but has a housing program for those over 55. These two-story, two-bedroom units are just a short drive away from Rancocas State Park and Nature Center and multiple museums.
The Hainesport Senior Citizen Club meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month.
Phillipsburg
Population Estimate: 15,200
Median Home Cost: $144,200
Why?: Crime rates well below the national average, and the walkability of Phillipsburg make this old railroad community a favorite. The Delaware River Railroad Excursions and Phillipsburg Railroad Historians are programs that enrich the town's attractions.
Phillipsburg is a 30-minute drive to the Poconos, complete with beautiful hills, the Delaware River and woodlands.
Warren County also provides multiple senior programs, such as the community meal initiative that hosts lunches and other social events.
