NEW JERSEY - Over 50,000 pounds of ready-to-eat sausage products are being recalled nationwide due to a possible Listeria contamination, federal health officials said Sunday.

The meat products, manufactured by Rhode Island-based Daniele International LLC, were produced between May 23 and Nov. 25, 2022, and were shipped to nationwide retailers from Dec. 23 to Jan. 17, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said.

The agency became aware of the possible contamination during “routine inspection activities” in which Listeria monocytogenes was found on surfaces that the product came into contact with.

Consumers with these products should throw them away or return the item(s) to the initial place of purchase for a refund.

“Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns,” the agency said. “Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.”
