Thousands In NJ Lose Power As High Winds Batter The State

Another windy day is in store for Tuesday, with the entire state under a Wind Advisory.

Some towns had winds blowing up to 60 mph Monday and early Tuesday as the powerful gusts brought down trees and caused thousands to lose power.

As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, 1,462 JCP&L customers had no power, according to the company's outage map. Both PSE&G and Atlantic City Electric were down to 47 customers and 53 customers respectively without power.

All of New Jersey remains under a Wind Advisory until Tuesday afternoon.

"West winds will begin to ramp up to 20 to 30 mph with with 40 to 50 mph gusts this morning as some shortwave energy passes through the region," National Weather Service forecasters said. "The pressure gradient slackens somewhat in the afternoon, and winds diminish to 15 to 20 mph with 25 to 30 mph gusts."

Wind gusts reached 40 mph to 60 mph in parts of the state, according to the National Weather Service. These are the top reported winds:
