3 Inches Of Rain Could Fall In Weekend Storms: Latest NJ Forecast
A pair of storms are set to hit NJ this weekend with potentially damaging winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms, forecasters said.
NEW JERSEY - A pair of storms are set to slam New Jersey this weekend with potentially damaging winds, heavy rain, thunderstorms and localized flooding, forecasters said.
Showers will start in New Jersey by Friday afternoon, with the heaviest rain of the storm system to impact New Jersey overnight Friday into Saturday as isolated thunderstorms develop, the National Weather Service said Friday morning.
The Jersey Shore is slated to see the most rainfall (1.5 to 2 inches) through Saturday night; most of South Jersey is expected to see 1 to 1.5 inches of rainfall while the northwestern portion of the state could see as little as .5 to an inch of rain during the same time period.

Damaging winds up to 35 mph could also hit the state Friday afternoon and evening, though stronger gusts between 40 to 45 mph are also possible overnight along the coast, forecasters said.

The first bout of rain is expected to taper off from south to north on Saturday, with lighter gusts of wind between 10 and 15 mph also possible.
As of 7 a.m. Friday morning, five counties were under a hazardous weather outlook due to minor coastal flooding and possible tree damage and power outages Saturday from windy conditions. The affected counties are:
- Monmouth
- Cape May
- Atlantic
- Ocean
- Salem
The second storm is set to make its way into the Garden State early Sunday morning, though the majority of rainfall will start between midday and Sunday evening, forecasters said. Total rainfall amounts are estimated to be between 1 to 1.5 inches, though locally higher amounts are possible, with the highest amounts to be seen in the northwestern portion of the state.
Unsettled weather conditions are expected to linger through the middle to the end of next week, forecasters added. The “bright spot” of the week may be seen on Monday, which is expected to be dry and potentially sunny across most of the state. Temperatures could reach up to 60 degrees before dropping back down into the low 40s overnight.

Saturday: Periods of rain. High near 50. East wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Saturday Night: Rain likely, mainly before 8 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 45. Northeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Sunday: Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 5 p.m. High near 59. Northeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Sunday Night: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 11 p.m., then rain between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., then a chance of rain and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Low around 47. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Monday: A 30 percent chance of rain before 8 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.
Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.
South Jersey
Friday: Rain, mainly after 11 a.m. High near 58. East wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Friday Night: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Patchy fog. Low around 50. Breezy, with an east wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Saturday: Rain, mainly before 11 a.m. Patchy fog before 11 a.m. High near 63. Breezy, with an east wind 10 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Saturday Night: A chance of rain, mainly after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. North wind around 5 mph becoming east after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
