NEW JERSEY - The first measurable snow of the season could come this weekend for some northern New Jersey towns, forecasters said.

Following a mostly sunny Friday and Saturday, temperatures are set to dip into the upper 20s to mid 30s Saturday night, with precipitation slated for Sunday morning across the entire state, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain is in store as part of the "mini" storm system set to hit New Jersey this weekend, according to AccuWeather, though a wintry mix along and north of the I-78 corridor “can’t be ruled out,” the National Weather Service said. Measurable snow totals between 1 and 3 inches are also expected for the Poconos and northwest New Jersey.

“Rain will be expected for the rest of the forecast areas,” the National Weather Service added in a Friday morning forecast discussion. “Lows Sunday night will end up near freezing for most, but in much of the area, that won't be until after the threat of precip[itation] has largely ended.”

Slippery roadways wet with slush will create potential issues for motorists Sunday night into Monday morning, AccuWeather added.

A few showers down the shore are also possible on Saturday with an Atlantic low inching closer to the coastline, forecasters added. However, with temperatures in the mid-40s on Friday and Saturday, it’ll be too warm for any snow before Sunday.

As of Friday morning, eight New Jersey counties have been issued a hazardous weather outlook by the National Weather Service as minor coastal flooding will be possible through Sunday. Gale-force winds and/or very rough seas are also forecast on Monday, the agency said. The affected counties are:

  • Middlesex
  • Monmouth
  • Cumberland
  • Ocean
  • Atlantic
  • Cape May
  • Salem
  • Burlington
