NJ Weather Timeline: Rain, ‘Storm-Force’ Winds In Store This Week

NEW JERSEY - Prepare your umbrellas New Jersey, as an extended period of rain over the Garden State is expected to linger for some time this week.

Showers have already started in eastern Pennsylvania and will push east across New Jersey Tuesday morning, though the first heavy rounds of rain are slated to hit the Garden State around 1 p.m., with overcast skies, possible dense fog and additional periods of rain through Tuesday night, the National Weather Service said. The rain may remain through Wednesday, with drier skies expected on Thursday before additional rounds of showers on Friday and Saturday.

As of Tuesday morning, a hazardous weather outlook has been issued through Tuesday night for five New Jersey counties due to possible dense fog into Wednesday morning. The affected counties are:

A hazardous weather outlook has also been issued for coastal waters near Ocean, Sussex, Cape May and Monmouth counties, as well as near the Delaware Bay, due to gale-force winds and/or very rough seas predicted Friday, Sunday and Monday. Saturday may see storm-force winds and/or very rough seas on Saturday, forecasters said.

Thursday’s gusts are slated to reach between 10 and 20 mph, forecasters added.

Temperatures this week are slated to heat up into the high 50s on Tuesday and Thursday, with temperatures up to 61 degrees possible on Wednesday. The forecast is expected to dip into colder temperatures on Saturday with temperatures in the mid-30s.

Here’s the latest forecast, per the National Weather Service:

Tuesday: Rain likely, mainly after 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 58. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Periods of rain. Patchy fog after 5 a.m. Low around 52. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Rain likely, mainly before 7 a.m. Patchy fog before 7 a.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 61. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A slight chance of rain before 7 p.m., then a slight chance of showers between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 57. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35.

Friday: A chance of rain after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 49. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
