Severe Storms To Bring Hail, Gusty Winds After Weekend Warmup In NJ

NEW JERSEY — Summer-like weather this weekend will be followed by severe storms on Monday that could bring thunder and lightning, hail and strong, gusty winds, according to the latest forecast.

The warmest day of the season is expected Saturday, with temperatures in the mid-70s to low-80s inland and in the 60s along the immediate coast, National Weather Service forecasters said. It will not be as warm Sunday, but still with highs in the mid-60s to mid-70s.

A cold front moves in Sunday night and crosses through Monday into Monday night, the National Weather Service said.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has parts of the Garden State in their Severe Weather Outlook for Monday.

AccuWeather forecasters predict that most of New Jersey will see some severe thunderstorms, hail, flooding downpours and damaging wind gusts of up to 60 to 70 mph. Severe weather will sweep along the Eastern Seaboard from southeastern Louisiana all the way up to New Jersey.

"While the risk of tornadoes is low for Monday at this time, a few severe thunderstorms could still produce a brief tornado," AccuWeather forecasters said. "The main threat of severe weather on Monday will be high winds, hail and flash flooding."

Another storm is possible later in the week, but as of now it's too early to tell the specifics.
