Snow Squalls Possible This Week In NJ: Latest Forecast

NEW JERSEY — Snow squalls are possible following a quiet start to the week in New Jersey, according to the latest forecast.

Monday will be calm and dry with temperatures as warm as the mid-40s, the National Weather Service said.

As we get into the week, the chance of precipitation increases.

"The main focus through this period is the potential for snow showers or snow squalls, both Tuesday morning, and again late Tuesday night into Wednesday. A secondary concern is gusty winds, primarily during the day time hours," the National Weather Service said.

Brief, but intense, snow showers or squalls are expected to develop along a front that's north of the state. It could reach as far south as the I-78 corridor, National Weather Service forecasters said.

"As it is expected to be fast moving and dissipating as it moves into our region, we aren`t expecting much in the way of snow accumulation," forecasters said. "However, looking upstream where this band might initially develop, the ingredients are there for this band to be snow squalls."

Then on Wednesday, isolated showers are likely mostly north of Philadelphia, with higher chances in the northwest corner of NJ. Depending on the timing, the showers could be mostly rain for much of the area, but mostly snow in Northwest Jersey.

Another system moves in Friday, but forecasters aren't yet sure how that will play out.

Tuesday: A slight chance of snow showers before 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tuesday Night: A slight chance of snow showers after 1 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 22. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Wednesday: A slight chance of snow showers before 10 a.m., then a slight chance of rain showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 44. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 21.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 35.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26.

Friday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Central Jersey

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 40. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
