Strong Storms Possible As System Targets NJ: Latest Forecast

NEW JERSEY — A storm system will move into New Jersey on Saturday, bringing with it the possibility for heavy rainfall, strong winds and isolated tornadoes.

According to the latest National Weather Service forecast, showers and thunderstorms are expected to move in later Saturday and continue into the night. Forecasters said the state will likely see the most storm activity between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The primary threat with these storms will be damaging wind gusts, especially north and west of the I-95 corridor; however, forecasters said they "cannot rule out 1-inch hail or an isolated tornado."

North Jersey is most likely to see severe weather Saturday, NWS forecasters said. The area is under a slight risk, which means scattered severe storms are possible. Meanwhile, severe weather is less likely in parts of Central and South Jersey.

On Friday, the NWS said New Jerseyans can expect unsettled weather in the coming days, including multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms through Tuesday.

Forecasters are predicting about one to three inches of rainfall through Tuesday, with locally higher amounts possibly exceeding four inches.
