1 Person Hospitalized After Fire At Abandoned Asbury Park Church

The Holy Spirit church is no longer in use. When fire crews got there, they found someone had been sleeping inside.

ASBURY PARK, NJ — One person was hospitalized after at fire broke out Sunday night at Holy Spirit Church on 2nd Avenue in Asbury Park, according to news reports and local fire departments.

The fire broke out at 12:30 a.m. in the church rectory, a vacant, three-story building in the rear of the property, according to News 12.

When fire crews got there, they found someone had been sleeping inside; that person was rushed to the hospital. The person was conscious and alert when they were transported.

The Holy Spirit church has been abandoned and is no longer in use. The fire rose to third-alarm status, said the Ocean Twp. Fire Department, which has video of the church rectory on fire.

They also reported there was a partial building collapse, which led to firefighters evacuating the building.
